Where is it held and on what date?

What are the categories?

Municipal Innovation and Service Excellence Award
Any innovative practice that enhances the construction or operation of sustainable municipal infrastructure and/or the ability to deliver municipal services that exceeds the expectations of their customers.

Economic Development Leadership Award
Any municipal practice that demonstrates the municipal corporation’s use of strategies to improve the local economic development climate while supporting long-term economic development in Saskatchewan.

Regional Leadership and Partnerships Award
Any municipal practice that exemplifies efforts to consult and cooperate with other municipalities, non-governmental organizations, community groups, First Nations, other governments, and citizens for the purpose of delivering benefits to citizens.

Environmental Stewardship Award
Any municipal practice that demonstrates the municipal corporation's work as a steward of the environment, or the municipal corporation’s efforts to encourage environmental sustainability within their community.

Heritage Conservation Leadership Award
Any municipal practice that demonstrates the municipal corporation's work as a steward of heritage, or the municipal corporation’s efforts to encourage heritage conservation within their community.

Community Life Enrichment Award
Any municipal practice that demonstrates leadership and continuous improvement enhancing and enriching the quality of life in their community through advocacy, enabling, support and provision of diverse and inclusive recreation, active living programs and facilities, attractive parks and open spaces and collaborative efforts in socializing citizens.

What is the criteria to apply?

All Saskatchewan municipal practices initiated in 2000 or later are eligible for an award, including projects involving multiple municipalities. If your municipal project demonstrates any of the following then your municipality has what it takes to be a Saskatchewan Municipal Award Winner!

  • good governance;
  • effective management;
  • consistent public engagement;
  • innovation;
  • significance;
  • transferability;
  • sustainability; and
  • capacity building.

Can I nominate myself?

Yes! You can nominate yourself or nominate a practice from a neighbouring municipality. Projects can also be nominated in more than one category.

Who selects the winners out of each category?

A selection committee made up of 5 distinguished individuals. Last year’s Selection Committee was made up of:

  • Jim Angus (long-time rural administrator, secretary rural Board of Examiners and winner of the Lou Jacobs award);
  • Holly Hetherington (President of Executive Source);
  • Bob Linner (long-time city manager and winner of Scoop Lewry award);
  • Murray Mandryk (political columnist for Regina Leader-Post); and
  • Senator Pamela Wallin.

How do I apply – is it easy? 

The process is very easy -- just visit www.municipalawards.ca to download the nomination forms and guidelines.  There are only seven questions to answer!

Why should I apply? What do I win?

Submitting a nomination will give you the chance for provincial exposure and an opportunity to showcase and gain recognition for your municipality. Winners will receive:

  • A professional group framed photograph taken at the luncheon
  • A DVD of the video showcasing your municipalities project
  • Saskatchewan Municipal Award winner logos to be used on any municipality correspondence
  • A trophy commemorating your municipal accomplishment
  • Two complimentary tickets for members of your organization to attend the luncheon
  • $150 to help offset your costs to attend as our guests. 

What are some examples of the types of projects that would be considered for a municipal award?

When can I apply?

Nominations are now open. Submit your nominations before March 21, 2012.

When is the application deadline?

The deadline to submit nominations for the 2012 program is March 21, 2012.

Can the general public attend the luncheon? How do I obtain tickets?
